F-01 Practice Exam: 20 Real FDNY Questions
Walking into the metro center without practice is like walking into a burning building without water. The F-01 exam is only fifty questions, but they are pulled from a pool of three hundred and the wording flips faster than a pancake. We mined the latest test cycle and pulled twenty questions that actually appeared this year. Answer these cold and you will know exactly where to study.
Sample Questions
- What is the maximum time allowed for sprinkler impairment before fire watch is required?
- Which form is filed to notify the fire department of a system shutdown?
- How many feet must a fire watch guard patrol from hot work operations?
- What class of fire extinguisher is suitable for a magnesium fire?
- Who is responsible for signing the hot work permit?
- What is the minimum patrol interval during system impairment?
- Which color tag is placed on a sprinkler valve that is closed?
- What action is required if a guard smells gas during patrol?
- How long must fire watch continue after the last torch is extinguished?

Score yourself before peeking at the answer key. If you miss more than three, hit the books again. The real test allows only fifteen wrong out of fifty.

Pro Study Tips
Read the question twice. The exam loves double negatives like “which of the following is NOT required.” Circle the word NOT so your brain does not skip it.
Memorize the patrol intervals. Thirty minutes is the golden number for impairment, hot work, and post fire watch. Anything longer is wrong unless the question specifies a high hazard occupancy.
Use the process of elimination. Two answers will be obviously wrong, one will be close, one will be exact. Pick exact and move on. Second guessing costs time and time fails testers.
Free Retake Rule
You can retake the test the next business day if you fail, but you pay the fee again. A five dollar app with flash cards beats a twenty five dollar retake every time.
